Iceland New Years 2018
Sigríður (Sigrid) Jóhannesdóttir left her beloved Iceland in the 80s, yet, despite her three decades in the US, she has always remained close to her family and friends, and, although far from home, kept her culture and language close to her heart.
Spending New Year’s Eve in Iceland last year with some American friends, Sigrid realized how incredibly unique New Year’s festivities in Iceland really are. With that epiphany, she now wants to share her homeland’s holiday festivities with friends new and old who want something truly exciting and uniquely different to mark the end of a long year.
She invites all adventurous revelers to join her in this celebration. She has put together an exclusive journey, for a small group of no more than 18 people, where you will enjoy VIP access to the best of Iceland. Guests on this journey will be staying at her favorite hotel, The Reykjavik Residence Hotel, the number one rated hotel in the heart of charming downtown Reykjavik. You will savor renowned Nordic cuisine, unwind in the best spas, drink with the locals, and enjoy relaxing day trips to the nearby wonders of nature –all the while spending the long nights mesmerized by the Northern lights shimmering in the skies.
Sigrid’s longtime friend, Kolfinna, a professional expert on all things Icelandic, will join us on this sojourn, providing exclusive knowledge (best shopping, best eating, best drinking), and regaling us with incredible tales and rich history of the proud Icelandic people.
Highlighting the trip is, of course, New Year’s Eve Icelandic style. It will begin with sitting down to a sumptuous New Year’s Eve feast at the highly rated (and locals’ favorite) Port 9 with a private menu prepared by the award-winning chef, Gunnar Rúnarsson. After dinner we will venture out to visit the massive bonfires along the bay where families and friends gather to watch, drink, and warm themselves. Then the Fireworks! The private fireworks will literally fill the sky, as they are set off by virtually every Icelander old enough to walk. After sleeping in, you will welcome in New Year’ Day with a lavish brunch and morning cocktails.
Join Sigríður on this journey for a memory that will never be forgotten.
