Day 2: The second day of this adventure is reserved for exploring the beautiful and otherworldly scenic wonders surrounding Reykjavik. Traveling by private coach we will navigate a portion of the Golden Circle visiting the highlights of this area and enjoying the peaceful yet thrilling countryside.
Among these wonders are Gullfoss Waterfall. one of the most popular attractions in Iceland and magical with ice and shimmering snow. The Hvítá river rushes southward, the falls flows down into a wide curved three-step “staircase” and then abruptly plunges in two stages 36 feet, and 69 feet into a crevice 105 ft deep. The crevice, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river.
We will also explore Haukadalur Valley which is home to some of the most famous geothermal features including the biggest geysers of Haukadalur, Strokkur and Geysir itself, which gave us the word ‘geyser’. Strokkur is very dependable erupting every 5 to 10 minutes, whereas the bigger Geysir now erupts very rarely. There are also more than 40 other smaller hot springs, mud pots and fumaroles nearby.
The end of our tour will include sampling some tasty and some perhaps a bit daring traditional Icelandic cuisine and drink at a private reception hosted by Jón Baldvin Hannibalsson, Icelandic politician and diplomat, former Ambassador to the USA and Foreign Minister and his wife Bryndís Schram actress, TV-producer, journalist and author at their beautiful home just outside of Reykjavik
Afterwards we travel back to our home base where you are free to explore the satisfying range of pubs and restaurants
